About this object

The Chambre Bed is produced by a Jodhpur atelier working in the French provincial revival grammar — the same craft vocabulary that furnished colonial bungalows, hill station retreats, and Pondicherry villas across a century of Indo-European interior life in India. Made by a third-generation craftsman whose family has been producing French-style cane furniture for export collectors and heritage hotel interiors since the 1970s, this bow-crest headboard design has been in continuous production for forty years. A carved bow-and-ribbon crest crowns the arched top rail, flanked by pineapple finials on the corner posts, with the crest line descending into a double-panel hand-woven rattan cane insert that lets light pass through it like a window. The rattan cane weave is executed by hand, panel by panel, with an evenness that machine production cannot achieve. Below, a solid hardwood frame on turned tapered legs carries the piece with quiet authority. Available in three hand-applied and hand-distressed finishes — Chalk White, Warm Brown, and Charcoal Grey — this bed does not need styling to make a room. It is the room. The headboard is the face of a bedroom, and this one has been given the full French provincial treatment, embodying the continuity of craft that defines India's foremost heritage furniture district.
