About this object

This mirror embodies the French Neoclassical trumeau tradition as interpreted through Jodhpur's legendary wood carving mastery. Created by the same workshop artisan responsible for the companion Medallion Panel, it represents over three centuries of European decorative mirror design filtered through Rajasthan's finest relief carving techniques. The grey-wash finish over solid teak references 18th-century painted wood furniture, while the acanthus and bead-and-rope motifs descend directly from Louis XVI ornamental vocabulary. Carved entirely by hand in deep relief from solid teak, the square frame surrounds an oval mirror aperture with densely worked surfaces at every level. Scroll-and-acanthus inner borders curve around the glass like a carved wreath. Four corner spandrels carry dense acanthus leaf work. Between inner oval and outer edge, two concentric bead-and-rope borders run the full perimeter with reed-fluted sections filling intervals. The stepped outer moulding adds final architectural depth. The grey wash pools in carved recesses, sharpening every shadow between leaf and scroll, while warm teak honey shows through on raised surfaces. This piece appeals to collectors seeking statement decorative mirrors with genuine hand-carving integrity. Designed as a companion to the Medallion Panel, buyers often return for the matching piece to create a two-work carved wall installation. The mirror functions equally well above consoles, in dressing rooms, or at corridor terminals. Mint condition contemporary production maintains centuries-old Jodhpur carving standards for international interiors.
