From the Curator

""This set exists because a lodge owner asked me a question nobody had: 'what happens in year three?' Upholstered furniture on an open deck has one ending — so we built furniture where year three is just a wash cycle. The canvas is lashed on the way our tent fitters rig fly sheets, and the first prototype spent a monsoon on our own workshop verandah deliberately uncovered. The frame didn't blink, the canvas dried by noon, and the foreman's dog claimed the ottoman permanently, which we have learned to treat as the highest grade of product approval available to us.""

About this object

A lounge set built like expedition kit: a three-seat sofa, two single lounge chairs and an ottoman, each one a slim welded steel frame dressed in heavy olive canvas — grommeted, lashed and strapped on rather than upholstered to it. The back cushions hang from full-grain leather buckled straps; the seat cushions rest on webbing; every textile element unbuckles, unlaces and lifts off. It is the furniture equivalent of a well-made tent, designed for the deck of a glamping suite, the verandah of a farmhouse, the viewing platform of a wildlife lodge. The construction philosophy is military surplus, honestly applied. Waxed cotton canvas is the fabric of tentage and kit bags because it sheds dust, shrugs off light rain and grows handsomer as it creases — and here it is grommeted with steel eyelets and lashed to the frame the way a bedroll lashes to a pack, so a damaged panel is replaced in minutes, not reupholstered in weeks. The frame is square-section mild steel, welded and powder-coated dark bronze: slim enough to nearly vanish under the canvas, strong enough to be dragged across deck timber for a decade. Every cover zips off for washing; every strap is a stock part. No irreplaceable components. This is the set for the threshold spaces Indian properties live in — the covered deck, the machaan platform, the farmhouse verandah where the evening actually happens. It seats six with the ottoman drafted in, rearranges in moments because each piece travels light, and its olive-and-bronze palette sits naturally against grassland, canvas and timber. For hospitality, it is the serviceable answer to outdoor lounge furniture; for homes, it is the farmhouse lounge that doesn't sulk when the weather changes. Sold as the four-piece set or configured to space; supplied per-deck for hospitality with spare cover sets available.
